Pocono Owes One to Kory Rabenold

By: Gene Ostrowski

Slatington, PA- With only a handful of laps remaining in the June running of the ARCA/REMAX Pocono 200 at Pocono International Raceway in Long Pond, PA, Kory Rabenold, a Pennsylvania native, seemed poised for a top ten finish. Instead he was "bit" by the speedway in the tunnel turn.

The team had a lot of rebuilding ahead of them in order to make the upcoming August event. Led by his father and crew chief, Ken "Buzzy" Rabenold, Kory hasn’t lost confidence in the tricky 2.5-mile tri-oval.

In fact, he's earned more respect toward the historic speedway. "I feel really confident with my car even though it suffered major damage last race", said Kory regarding his rebuilt race car.

It is the second season for Kory and the team at Pocono. Last season they were underpowered and were racing to finish the race and hopefully bring the car back to the garage in one piece. This year the strategy is a little different for the young pilot. "My main goal is to stay out of trouble and try to get to the front- hopefully ending the race in the top ten", he said.

The team hasn't had issues with the Hoosier radials that the series competes with and Rabenold plans to push them to their limits. He said, "We didn't have tire problems last race so I think I'm going to use all sets aggressively".

Kory is very confident in making his return to the driver's seat, and most importantly in front of his hometown crowd. "I believe with all the preparing we done we going are to be fast. "My team and I are ready and excited to go back to my home track and kick some tail".

Interstate Batteries of Allentown, PA will return as the primary race sponsor and Britech Incorporated, also of Allentown, PA, has come on board as an associate sponsor.

Other supporting sponsors include Buzzy's Auto Body, Sign Designs, Torco Supply Co. Inc, NAPA, Brooksy's Beer's and Barrels, Computer Pals, Inc, Fitness Club, Liquid Lightning Energy Drink, Dynamite Woodworking, Occupational Medicine Center, Moore Cleaners, Inc, Valve Tech Sales, and The Pritchard Company.

The team will head out for time trials on Friday, August 1st at 1:45 PM. The ARCA/REMAX Pocono 200 is slated to begin at 1 PM on Saturday, August 2nd.
