RABENOLD RACING FOR 2009

KRR works hard in the pits and on the track to earn a top 3 finish

Date: 6/6/09

Saturday night's action was Hand #2 of the 100 Lap Poker series at MVS, and as expected, the competition and the excitement on and off of the track left you wanting more. Before the night started however, a couple of "gremlins," showed their ugly face and left the KRR team scrambling for some solutions.

Kory Rabenold and his team arrived at the track for early practice. After many changes in the shop during the week prior to the race, the team wanted to make sure that the Zacharias Motorsports/Kory Rabenold Racing/Liquid Lightning Energy Drink, #63 Modified was ready for action. The car was unloaded from the hauler and Kory quickly jumped in and took it down onto the track. Kory simulated a re-start and ran a couple of laps and brought the car back into the pits, he thought he was spinning the tires on the starts. We made an adjustment and sent him back out, and quickly realized he wasn't spinning the tires, the clutch was going bad and going bad in a hurry.

KRR brought the car back into the pits, put it up on jack stands and with the guidance of crew chief, Buzzy Rabenold, started to pull the transmission and clutch out of the car. The KRR team asked if any fellow competitors had the same sized clutch pack and fortunately, the #22 Modified of Don Wagner was able to help us out. We replaced the clutch in time and got the car back on the ground to make the first round of warm-ups. This time the tires weren't spinning and the clutch wasn't slipping. During practice, the team made some changes to the set-up and we were ready for qualifying.

The field would be set by time trials. The top 12 would re-draw for position, and then heat races would set the field for position from 13 on back. The #63 KRR Modified was the 2nd last car to go out onto the track for qualifying. Kory took the green and turned two quick laps, the quickest was 9.839 seconds that was fast enough for the pole position, however, after the redraw, KRR saw themselves starting from the 9th position.

As the energy and excitement began to build in the grandstands, Kory and his crew were getting anxious for the start of this 100-lap event. Kory rolled onto the track prepared and focused on the race. The green flag flew and the race was underway. For the first few laps, as drivers were maneuvering for position, Kory was feeling out his car to see what he had. Kory worked his machine up the fourth position and would ride there for a period of time. At one point Kory got shuffled out of the groove and into the marbles and dropped to the back of the pack. Kory started to work his way back up through the field. At about lap 25 or so, a caution would slow the pace; Kory made his way into the pits, and let his crew know that the car was extremely loose. Our tire specialist made an air pressure adjustment and we sent Kory back onto the track. Kory would line up at the back of the pack and as the green flew, Kory started making his back to the front.

A series of cautions for spins and accidents would help keep the field bunched up and Kory was able to make his way up into the top 5. As the laps would click off, the caution came out for the final time with 7 to go. Kory was in the 5th position, and looking to make up a couple of more positions before the end of the race. When they went back to action, Kory made a couple of passes on the inside to get him into the 3rd position. Kory would settle for 3rd due to not wanting to push his ill handling machine. At the end of the race, Kory was fighting a car that was too tight to mount a challenge for the 1st and 2nd place finishers.

At the end of the race Kory commented," We had a good car tonight, it wasn't where it needs to be to win, but we are happy with a 3rd place finish. During the race, we made some changes and we had some fun. I want to thank my car owner Terry Zacharias, my dad and crew chief Buzzy Rabenold, and my crew."

KRR wants to thank all of their sponsors, Liquid Lightning Energy Drink, Buzzy's Auto Body, Mama's Pizza, Dynamite Woodworking, Brooksy's Beers and Barrels, Computer Pals, Springhouse Eye Care, Moore Cleaners, and Fitness Club of Walnutport, without of all of these sponsors, it would be difficult to run each week and run up front.

Next week at MVS is Fan appreciation night. KRR hopes to be able to come back and build on this past weekend's performance and finish out the night in victory lane for all of his fans and sponsors. Come on out to the track and meet Kory and his crew and receive an autograph from all of your favorite drivers who put on a great show for the fans each week.
